Principal Concepts
I have worked hard to develop a system that helps students learn faster, develop confidence and reach their goals. This system is based on three principal concepts.
Modern, Digital Courseware
The English language constantly evolves as the world we live in changes. Students need course material that changes too. In my classes, you will learn from the latest teaching materials with interactive elements. I develop a custom syllabus for each student from digital platforms that are constantly updated so students succeed in today’s world.
Adaptive Techniques
Having taught hundreds of students of all ages, it is exceedingly clear to me that everyone has their own style of learning, and it takes time and effort to determine what it is for each person. As a private tutor, I get to know my students personally and adapt both the course material and my teaching methods to make sure they progress at the fastest rate possible.
Online Platform
We are all busy, but we always make time for the things that are most important. With modern, digital courseware and amazing presentation tools like Zoom and VooV, you can now make sure that you don’t miss out on the best education options. Have a remote class anywhere and at a day and time that are convenient for you.
Class Details
Format
All classes with Pear English are one-to-one (one-on-one or 1-v-1). My teaching methods centre around giving attention to the individual needs of each student. While group learning has its benefits, such classes cannot be fully customised to suit the needs of each individual student.
Courseware
The course material for classes with Pear English is hand-picked from ESL Library and Oxford Reading Library. All materials are developed for the online teaching format with interactive and engaging elements. Class material is constantly updated with modern vocabulary, present-day subjects and fun lessons so that students enjoy learning to speak English in today’s world. I utilise a generic level system that is recognised worldwide and has equivalencies to the standards you are familiar with (CEFR, CLB, CASAS) and the standardised tests TOEIC, TOEFL and IELTS.
Length
Classes are 25 minutes in length and the course material is adapted to fit this time frame. Analyzing responses from parents along with determining the attention span of learners helped to determine this as the optimal class length. If desired and class slots are available, students may book two classes in tandem, or as many classes in a week as they would like.
Placement & Assessment
Students are placed into a course path that is determined based on information that is provided along with each student’s assessed performance. Students are never ‘locked in’ to a certain course. Rather, courses can be changed, adapted or skipped at any time. Every tenth class is an assessment that will be used to determine if the student continues in the current course or moves to the next level of courses. Rapid advancement is the goal!
Content
Content is assembled specifically for each student, including lessons on grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, conversation starters, mini-debates, open-ended question and answer and more! During each class, students will be coached to use complete sentences, proper grammar and pronunciation. Preview / review worksheets are provided for each class. Homework and writing assignments are given and reviewed for complementary development.
Pricing, Payment & Terms
All 25-minute classes are $20 USD and sold in packages of 10 classes or more ($200 USD). Payment is made by WeChat Pay, PayPal, credit/debit card or bank transfer (you do not pay any fees). To receive credit for cancelling a scheduled class, notice must be sent at least 24 hours in advance. One free 10-15 minute trial class is offered to each prospective student.
Level Equivalency Scale
To accommodate English language learners worldwide, I use a generic leveling system that is recognized internationally. This scale indicates approximate equivalency to other common standards and is subject to change.

About Legacy English
I was born and raised in the United States, where I studied the theory of electricity, public speaking, and teaching. My father was a master electrician and instilled in me his ethics of honesty and diligence. My skills and abilities include: qualified master electrician, public speaker, public speaking instructor, English tutor, and accent reduction coach. I have taught students of all ages, backgrounds and in different settings on a variety of subjects, ranging from social conversational topics, law, engineering and history.
